CHARACTERplus and the St. Louis Rams Huddle Up to Promote Literature
CHARACTERplus, a project of the Cooperating School Districts of Greater St. Louis, Inc. (CSD), and the St. Louis Rams have partnered on a project that bridges the fictional world with the real world. Both active and retired St. Louis Rams players have been videotaped reading passages from books that are part of the curriculum in many schools. The players concluded their segment with how they have experienced similar challenges and issues in their lives and discussed specifics about the qualities that help meet those challenges.
The videotaped sessions were produced by CSD’s Communications Department and are being edited as upcoming vodcasts for the CHARACTERplus Web site. From there they will be available for classroom instruction. Designed to show how much our community leaders share in the love of reading and the value of good literature, they offer students fresh insights.
Rams quarterbacks Marc Bulger and Trent Green, along with former players Roland Williams and D’Marco Farr read from books such as Ruby Bridges, Amazing Grace, Because of Winn-Dixie, A Bridge to Terabithia, and To Kill a Mockingbird.
Cooperating School Districts (CSD) is an educational consortium serving 65 public school districts in Missouri and Illinois. CHARACTERplus is a project of CSD that works to advance the cause of character education and sustain its impact on educators and students.
