CSD Congratulates Sanford N. McDonnell

Founder of CHARACTERplus honored with Friend of Education award

The Cooperating School Districts of Greater St. Louis, Inc. (CSD) congratulates Sanford N. McDonnell, founder of CHARACTERplus, as the recipient of the Friend of Education award by the Missouri Association of School Administrators (MASA).  CHARACTERplus is a project of CSD that works to advance the cause of character education and sustain its impact on educators and students.

On April 9, McDonnell was presented with the award at the MASA Spring Conference at the Lodge of the Four Seasons in Lake of the Ozarks, Missouri.  McDonnell was nominated for the award by the MASA Greater St. Louis District 7, which encompasses St. Louis City, St. Louis County, St. Charles and Jefferson Counties.  The Missouri Association of School Administrators is the only statewide association in Missouri that exists for the purpose of serving the needs of school superintendents and central office administrators with an interest in becoming superintendents.

The MASA Friends of Education award is presented annually and recognizes individuals for their contribution to education locally or statewide.  McDonnell’s vision was to begin a professional development program that helped public school district teachers and administrators emphasize and expand their work in promoting good character with their students.  McDonnell continues to serve as chairman of CHARACTERplus and works to raise funds for continued expansion of the program, which will celebrate its 20th anniversary this year.

CHARACTERplus currently provides workshops, a national conference and resources to 707 schools in 131 school districts.
