Learning Through Technology Grant Awarded to Three Local Elementary Schools

$25,000 grant provides professional development to impact teacher training

Cooperating School Districts of Greater St. Louis, Inc. (CSD) and three of its member schools are recipients of a $25,000 grant through the Innovative Technology Education Fund. The grant will be used for professional development and the purchase of instructional technology equipment.

A project designed by CSD’s Virtual Learning Center (VLC) in collaboration with Hancock Place Elementary School (Hancock Place School District); Pine Lawn Elementary School (Normandy School District); and Central Elementary School (Wellston School District), was chosen as a 2007 grant recipient to enhance learning through the use of technology.

In addition to professional development, to be provided by CSD, the Innovative Technology Education Fund grant provides each school with a SMARTboard interactive white board, Epson projector, Dell laptop computer, and three handheld computers with software.

Ruth Litman-Block, director of CSD’s Virtual Learning Center says, “The grant was received from Innovative Technology Education Foundation and ThinkLink, a product of Discovery Education.  Through the grant, the three elementary schools will give baseline assessments to an entire grade level followed by two additional formative assessments.  The purpose of these assessments is to provide students with differentiated instruction to improve their scores on state achievement tests.”

The Innovative Technology Education Fund is a St. Louis-based charitable nonprofit organization that partners with educators in the St. Louis region to enhance learning through technology.

Cooperating School Districts (CSD) is an educational consortium serving 65 public school districts in Missouri and Illinois.  CSD strives to share the latest in emerging technologies and provide an opportunity for educators working with or interested in data-driven decision making to improve student achievement.
