Rams Encourage Local Students to Participate in Black History Month Celebration

--Rams Have Long Been Pioneers in Diversity Including Being First Professional Sports Team in the Modern Era to Sign an African-American Player ─ Even Before Jackie Robinson Signing--

ST. LOUIS – The St. Louis Rams, the St. Louis American and Better Family Life, Inc. have joined together in sponsoring an art and writing contest, in order to promote education and participation in Black History Month.

The contest is split up into three divisions: primary (kindergarten through second grade), elementary (third grade through fifth) and middle school (sixth through eighth grade). Those in the primary division are invited to create a work of art, while the two older divisions are asked to write an essay or poem addressing one of the following:

*Discuss the significance of two African-American head coaches leading their respective teams to this year’s Super Bowl.

*What does Black History Month mean to me and how can we celebrate it through out the year?

*How has my favorite African-American hero made life better for me today?

*If I was organizing a Civil Rights march what three people (past or present) would I invite and why?

The deadline for the contest is February 28, 2007.

Every student who participates in the contest will receive a Rams’ poster and an invitation to the play, “Voices of the Past and Present” on Saturday, March 3 at the Emerson Center at Harris Stowe University.  Winners will be selected from each grade and will receive two tickets and pregame field passes to a St. Louis Rams 2007 home game, with the grand prize winners from each division also receiving an autographed St. Louis Rams jersey.

Entry forms for the contest can be found online at www.stlouisrams.com/blackhistorymonth and should be attached to the student’s work and mailed to:
